Handmade Hanukkah

BRIGHTEN A HANUKKAH GATHERING BY MAKING SHINY TABLETOP DÉCORATIONS WITH SIMPLE MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES.

THESE SILVERY TABLETOP CREATIONS GENTLY REFLECT THE SURROUNDING LIGHT, GENERATING A WARM, WINTERY GLOW.

LET IT SHINE

Set the mood for your Hanukkah gathering with festive décor, including a menorah for the fireplace mantel. Adorn candles with foil tape (#135512), flathead plugs (#81608), and wood florets (#39139, #35234).

  • PLACES, EVERYONE! Create place-card holders by spray-painting wood florets (#39139, #35234) and gluing the smaller ones to the larger ones. Attach dowel pins (#81601) with hot-glue to prop them up.

  • FINE LETTER-RING Cut foil tape (#135512) into strips and fold the strips accordion-style. Cut about 1/4 inch of backing from one end of the strip to expose the adhesive. Wrap the strip around a napkin. To make the letters, cut steel wire (#62933) to length and shape with round-tipped needle-nose pliers.

  • SWEET STAND Let cookies or other table treats play a starring role. Start by spraypainting only the back of a clean, dry plate. Remove the screw from a furniture foot with pliers, then spray-paint the foot with Valspar metallic spray paint. Use epoxy to glue the foot to the back of the plate.

  • RUN THE TABLE Make a table “runner” by attaching moulding (#161622) to a board (#1105) with brads. Paint the runner with Valspar metallic spray paint. For the feet, use epoxy to attach a cabinet knob (#231698) to the underside of each corner.
